Still one of my favorite place in LA in general and for seafood specifically, even if it has come a bit of age. The interior design could be a bit modernized, but at the same time the chairs and everything feel very comfortable. Staff was outstanding and so was the food. The oysters were delicious, the Seabass and halibut were spectacular. The grilled octopus passed the Bavel test as it was very tender and flavorful. The sides were perfect. All in all, the food qualities very high in the quality over price ratio unquestionably beats Providence.
I've dined here several times and absolutely adore this place. In fact, I was eagerly waiting at the door when it opened this morning. I enjoyed the Spanish Octopus appetizer along with James River, Misty Point, and Pai Pai oysters, which were all incredibly fresh and flavorful. To me, he Misty Point was the sweetest, the James River mild, and the Pai Pai slightly briny. Complimented with a delicious drink and great friendly service from Sergio at the Oyster Bar.
I visited Water Grill for the first time with a long time friend on a Wednesday evening. Valet parking is available and easy to find. The restaurant validates parking for 2 hours while dining but because we stayed closer to 3 hours, we still had to pay $25 for parking. I think that would be the only downfall of this location. Upon arrival, we were nicely greeted by the host and quickly shown to our table. We had a 7pm reservation and were surprised that the restaurant was pretty busy but not overly crowded. The vibes were classy, intimate, and clean. The noise level was not too loud, I don't even recall if they played music because I was having such a great time enjoying the delicious food with great company. Our waiter was Chris and he was THE best. He explained everything very clearly and shared his recommendations which we loved. We each got a cocktail, I decided to try their Margarita Verde which was a nice refreshing, spicy margarita type of cocktail. I love me a good Margarita and this was delightful. If I didn't have to drive home I probably would've had a couple more. My friend ordered a classic espresso martini, always a good pick me up. We chose the crisp calamari as our appetizer and it was delicious. It had a good amount of crunch, the calamari was not chewy and the sauces it came with elevated the flavor. The bread was soooo good. Fresh and hot with their whipped butter. We love oysters so we decided to try the oyster sampler. It came with 6 different types all from different areas and I always love being able to taste the freshness and the difference between oysters from different regions. For my entree, Chris recommended the black cod in the fish broth with soba noodles and it had such great depth of flavor. The black cod was perfectly cooked, moist and melt in your mouth. My friend ordered the scallops and they were a good size and cooked to perfection. We finished our dinner with a sweet, caramel bread pudding for dessert. The salt gave it a good balance and the ice cream evened out the sweetness so it wasn't toooo sweet. Just the right amount of caramel sweetness. Overall pleased by the hospitality, and the quality of the dishes that we were already talking about planning our next visit. If you're looking for an upscale, good seafood restaurant with good drinks, a nice selection of fresh oysters, and great service in the downtown LA area then I'd recommend coming to Water Grill. I'd love to try out their other locations to see how they compare.
Food was good and came very quickly! We got the black sea bass and fish and chips, both are very delicious and tender. The batter on the fish wasn't thick and greasy like most fish&chips dishes. My sea bass was juicy and delicious just a little small. I'd come back at a less busy time/day tho. Even with reservation, we had to wait at least 20+ min. I forgot to take a picture of my lovely drink!! I asked for the least sweet drink and the friendly waiter said "castaway" but I don't like rum so I went for the "margarita Verde" which was so delicious! I can tell it's very carefully made, and so was the food. Maybe that's why the wait was long. There were big parties of people so I thought just the 2 of us wouldn't have to wait much. I'd come here again yes:)
Great restaurant, I've been coming here since 2015 and the food + service is excellent. Ordered the usual shrimp cocktails appetizer and Chilean Seabass for my main course - and my friend got fish and chips. Both delicious and fresh. The restaurant provides free bread and butter freshly baked. In terms of parking, you can valet in the garage that leads directly to the restaurant or find parking on the streets outside. The ambiance is more dim lit and on the loud side.
I haven't been to Water Grill in years. It was still really great. Good service, we ordered one clam chowder and they were kind enough to split the soup in half! The soup was delicious and the the seafood tower was full of a lot of delicious seafood. Not a bad deal for 100 bucks for two. We definitely left really full. I also order the Elysian Space Dust so it was nice that they had such a great beer available!
We stopped by this spot another place before coming and had a disappointing service experience, so we came to this spot hoping for a better experience. It absolutely delivered. Wonderful service with incredibly professional staff. Served quickly. Fresh, delicious oysters. Wonderful, warm sourdough bread. Margarita verde was lovely.
Really great ambiance and comfortable setting and the chairs were very comfy. It's a lovely menu not too big but lots of phenomenal options. I have the shrimp Louie salad it was absolutely outstanding and quite filling for lunch, my dining companion had the octopus and he said it was fantastic and he had the tuna poke. Our waitress was prompt and courteous and I definitely go back again.
My third 5 star review of this olace. Incredible seafood. Incredible oysters. Incredible appetizers. Incredible ambiance. Stellar service. You really can't go wrong coming here. A great place to bring a date. You can dress super fancy or casual no matter. Parking is in the entrance of a hotel. I don't know the name of it but it's very safe and valet. You walk a few yards to the restaurant. You get 2 hours of parking f I believe for 5 dollars. Amazing.
